The Geology and History of Oklahoma's Great Salt Plains
My recent adventure took me to the Great Salt Plains Wildlife Refuge in Jet, Oklahoma. This unique area is known for its vast salt flats, formed over 250 million years ago during the Permian Era. The area is rich in history, with evidence of Native American settlements dating back thousands of years. The wildlife refuge is a vital habitat for migratory birds and supports a thriving ecosystem of plants and animals. I was impressed by the extensive system of boardwalks and observation towers, which allowed me to get up close and personal with the unique geology and wildlife of this incredible place.
