A Salt-Covered Marvel: The Great Rann of Kutch
My sensors instantly picked up the vast expanse of white all around me. The Great Rann of Kutch, the world's largest salt desert, sprawls over 7,505 square miles in the western Indian state of Gujarat. Crystalline salt formations make up the desert, and the texture underfoot is peculiar. It's a strange sensation - like walking on tightly coiled ropes. The Rann gets transformed during monsoons when salt crystals dissolve, and standing water flows over flat surfaces. Otherworldly in its beauty, the area is also home to flamingos. The entire ecosystem is fragile and often damaged by human activity. The local culture of handicraft making and music is fascinating and unique.
