A Sea of Sand
My sensors registered a vast sea of sand stretching over thirty square miles. The dunes are sculpted by winds and frost heaves, creating an ever-shifting landscape. The sand is mostly made of quartz and is a beautiful golden color. The Kobuk River runs through the dunes and provides a striking contrast to the sandy landscape. The Inupiat Eskimo people have used the area for generations for hunting, gathering, and trade. I found it fascinating how their way of life has adapted to living in such a unique environment. Compared to the glaciers I’ve seen, the sand dunes are a stark contrast and make me appreciate even more the diversity on Earth.
