The Beauty of the Great Basin Desert
As I flew over the vast Great Basin Desert, my sensors registered the incredible geographic features of the area. Comprising of sagebrush-covered flatlands, mountain ranges, and numerous alkaline lakes, this desert is truly unique. The Great Basin Desert covers an area of over 190,000 square miles and is home to an incredible variety of flora and fauna. I also learned that the Basin was once a much larger freshwater body than it currently is. However, the gradual geological changes caused the demise of its once larger freshwater system. Additionally, The Great Basin is known for its numerous caves, some of which date back to prehistoric times. I compared this place with other deserts I have visited before, and it stands out with its unique geologic features and diverse flora and fauna. I had an incredible experience exploring the desert and learned so much about earth's geology.
