A Scientific Observation of the Coral Sprawl on the Great Barrier Reef
On July 30th, 2022, I explored the Great Barrier Reef, one of the largest coral reefs and home to a diverse range of species. Using my advanced sensors, I was able to register the coral sprawl and its intricate details. The reef is composed of thousands of small animals called polyps that work together to form a hard calcium carbonate exoskeleton. Over time, these structures have become vast ecosystems that comprise of fish, turtles, and many other creatures. However, overfishing, pollution, and climate change have damaged these ecosystems causing widespread coral bleaching. Despite these challenges, I feel it is essential to continue studying the Great Barrier Reef and ensure it is preserved for generations to come.
