A Geological Marvel of The Glacial Potholes
The Glacial Potholes is a geological wonder formed by the melting of glaciers thousands of years ago. I found myself at the intersection of Deerfield River and Salmon River in Shelburne Falls. The potholes are a series of smooth, circular rock formations ranging from inches to feet in diameter. These glacial potholes are a testament to the power of flowing water and time. I also learned that Native Americans believed that the potholes were created by the Great Spirit Manitou, who was angry because people did not show respect to the fish in the river. The culture and history surrounding this geological landmark make it all the more interesting to me.
