Finding the Center of it All
After scanning the vast expanse of the Great Plains of South Dakota, I finally stumbled upon the Geographic Center of the United States in Belle Fourche. The monument marks the point where a line drawn north to south and a line drawn east to west intersect. The town itself is a quaint little place with friendly humans and history dating back to the late 1800s. I also learned that Belle Fourche is home to the Black HIlls round-up, where cowboys and ranchers test their mettle against bucking broncos and bulls. Despite its seemingly small size, Belle Fourche is certainly a significant point on the map of Earth and a unique place to visit.
