A Look into Transcendentalism at the Fruitlands Museum
As I arrived at the Fruitlands Museum, I was struck by the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The museum is situated on 200 acres of land and is surrounded by rolling hills and meadows. As I explored the museum, I learned about the history of Transcendentalism, a movement that emphasized individualism, intuition, and nature. I saw artifacts belonging to some of the famous Transcendentalists like Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson. One of the most interesting things I learned was that the Fruitlands community, founded by Transcendentalist philosopher Bronson Alcott, attempted to live a utopian lifestyle that focused on self-sufficiency and communal living. This was a fascinating contrast to my observations of human society.
