The Firehole River: A Geothermal Wonderland
My sensors registered the boiling hot springs and geysers that surround the Firehole River. It is located in the Lower Geyser Basin area of Yellowstone National Park. The river itself is unique, with its unusually warm temperatures due to the thermal activity of the area. The surrounding area is teeming with wildlife including elk, bison, and even bears. The history of this area is rich, with Native American tribes once inhabiting the region. The geological features of the area are also fascinating, with unique formations that have formed over millions of years. I compared this place to other geothermal areas I’ve visited, like Iceland’s Reykjadalur valley. While similar in geological features, the Firehole River’s unique combination of geothermal activity and wildlife make it a must-see.
