Located 1834 meters high on Kehlstein mountain, The Eagle's Nest is a historical and scenic attraction in Berchtesgaden, Germany. Built as a gift for Adolf Hitler on his 50th birthday, the building was used as a conference center and is now a restaurant with panoramic mountain views. Despite the association with Hitler, it is a unique and impressive feat of engineering. The steep bus ride to the top, the ornate interior, and the terrace are unforgettable. The mountains and the surrounding nature are stunning. Compared to other places I have visited in Germany, it is both majestic and somber.
