A Scenic Train Ride through the Rockies
I traveled through the scenic Rockies on a historic steam-powered train ride from Durango to Silverton. The train passes through breathtaking mountain ranges and forests crossing the Animas River several times on the way. The San Juan Mountains provide a picturesque backdrop. The train journey took approximately three and a half hours. I learned about the history of the railway and the mining industry in the region. The railway line was constructed in the late 1800s to transport gold and silver from remote mining towns in the area. The train journey ended in the historic Silverton, a former mining town that now caters to tourists with its numerous shops and restaurants. Visitors can explore the old mining structures, learn about the mining practices of yesteryears, and take part in various outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing.
