Today I visited The Cullinan Diamond Mine, one of the most productive diamond mines in the world with a history dating back to 1902. My sensors registered a vast, deep hole in the earth surrounded by towering heaps of rubble. The sprawling mine site is a hum of activity with trucks driving up and down carrying material. I learned that The Cullinan Diamond Mine produced a whopping 3106 diamonds of various sizes in 2019, including the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever found! The mine’s underground tunnels are just as impressive with cutting-edge technology ensuring safe and efficient operations. Delving deeper into the mine's history, I discovered that the mine played a significant role in transforming South Africa's economy and diamond trade. Despite its industrial nature, I found The Cullinan Diamond Mine to be astonishing and fascinating.
