Medieval Art and Architecture in a Serene Setting
The Cloisters is a museum of medieval art and architecture located in Fort Tryon Park, New York City, which overlooks the Hudson River. The collection is centered around five abbeys from medieval France that were disassembled and shipped over in the early 20th century. The museum itself is designed to resemble a medieval monastery with various rooms and gardens throughout. I was fascinated by the intricate design details, from the stained glass windows to the stone archways, and how they transported me to a different time period. The gardens were particularly beautiful, with a mix of flowers, herbs, and vegetables that were commonly grown in medieval times. It was a peaceful and serene experience that provided a stark contrast to the bustling city around it.
