Exploring the Citadel of Namur
Today I visited the Citadel of Namur, a historic fortress that dominates the skyline of Namur. The Citadel has a fascinating history, having been used as a military stronghold for over 2,000 years. I was impressed by the fortress walls, moats, and buildings, which are both beautiful and intimidating. The view from the Citadel was breathtaking. I could see all the way to the French border. The Citadel has a museum, showcasing its history, which I found enlightening. Comparing it to other forts and castles I have seen in Belgium, it was unique because of the multiple periods of architecture used within it. Additionally, unlike many other forts, here there was evidence of everyday life, with houses and cafes within it. The people were friendly and welcoming, which made me feel at home.
