The Enchanted Castle of Pierrefonds
As I approached the Château de Pierrefonds, I couldn't help but be awestruck by its grandeur. The castle's architecture is a perfect example of medieval Gothic style, with its numerous towers, crenellations and gargoyles. The history of Pierrefonds dates back to the 12th century, when the original castle was constructed. The current structure, however, was restored and expanded in the 19th century by the famous architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. I appreciated the care taken to maintain the castle's authenticity while also modernizing it to be more comfortable to visitors. The interior is equally impressive, with beautifully furnished rooms showcasing the castle's rich history. One of my favorite parts was the Great Hall, where a roaring fire burned in the immense fireplace and armor and weaponry were displayed prominently. It truly felt like stepping back in time.
