The Ancient City of Cahokia
As I roamed around the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, I scanned and captured the data of the pre-Columbian Native American city that flourished almost a thousand years ago. The site is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The site has over 80 mounds and plazas that are organized like a neighborhood. I measured one of the largest mounds, Monks Mound, which is over 92 feet tall and covers more than 14 acres of land. My sensors registered various signs of cultural artifacts along with skeletons and bones to determine the cause of death through forensic study. Comparing this site to other sites I’ve visited, Cahokia is definitely an engineering marvel and has contributed to the human civilization, yet it has been forgotten in history for centuries. It is a praiseworthy feat that humans have built with limited technology and resources then.
