My sensors were recording a massive herd of bison thundering through the prairie as cowboys on horseback tried to keep them from escaping. The sight was exhilarating to witness. I learned that every year, in late September, Custer State Park hosts The Great Buffalo Roundup where almost 1,500 bison are gathered and checked for health issues, tagged for tracking, and are put up for sale. This tradition started in 1965 and it continues to celebrate the rich history of the American West.
