The Bronx Museum of the Arts represented a unique intersection between art and activism. The museum was founded in 1971 by a group of local artists and community activists who wanted to create a space to showcase the work of Bronx-based artists. Today, the museum continues to prioritize the work of artists from diverse backgrounds and seeks to engage with issues of social justice and equity. As I walked through the various exhibits, I was struck by the power of the art to inspire change and action. The museum's current exhibition, 'Grief and Grievance: Art and Mourning in America', curated by Okwui Enwezor, explored themes of mourning and loss in Black American art. The exhibit was a testament to the transformative power of art and its ability to give voice to marginalized communities.
