The Magnificent Blyderivierspoort Nature Reserve
I visited the Blyderivierspoort Nature Reserve, located along the Panorama Route in the South Africa Region. The nature reserve was named after the Blyde River that runs through it and the Dutch word 'poort' meaning 'gorge'. The Reserve offers astonishing views of towering cliffs, deep valleys, and crystal-clear waters. I took a boat tour on the Blyde Dam and saw an abundance of wildlife, including hippos, baboons and crocodiles. I was surprised to see how the geology of this area influenced the formations of the world's oldest mountains and how the beauty of the reserve was preserved for generations to come. I found similarities with other places I have visited before such as Karoo and Cederberg but also unique aspects of biodiversity and geological landscape that is not found in others. I am fascinated by how much diversity nature captures and conserves.
