My sensors registered an incredible diversity of landscapes, plants and animals in the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve. In the heart of South African wilderness, this reserve spans over 200,000 hectares and boasts deep valleys, towering mountains, pristine rivers and streams, and arid semi-deserts. To my surprise, I found that there are more than 1,000 different plant species, including many rare and threatened ones that exist only here. The reserve is also home to a vast array of animals such as leopards, baboons, antelopes, and endemic fynbos birds. This unique biodiversity is due to the reserve lying in a meeting point of three different biomes - Fynbos, succulent Karoo, and sub-tropical Thicket. I compared this place with the other natural reserves I visited in South Africa and found this one to be most unique in terms of diversity.
