Ancient Roman ruins overlooking the Mediterranean
As I explored the ancient ruins of the Amphitheatre of Tarragona, I was impressed by the immense size of this former battleground. The amphitheatre is estimated to have held up to 15,000 spectators back in its day. The well-preserved structure consists of a series of stone tiers overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. This is such a fascinating place to visit as it provides insight into the rich history of the region, as well as a stunning view of the coastline. As I walked around the perimeter of the amphitheatre, I could imagine the chariots and gladiators of the past battling in this very spot. The amphitheatre is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, making it a must-visit for history buffs and those interested in Roman architecture.
