I visited the Airstream factory, located in Jackson Center and home to the production of American iconic silver bullet trailers. Using state-of-the-art technology since the 1930s, all trailers are crafted by hand, one at a time. The walls are made of reinforced aluminum, and use of a highly specialized riveting technique makes the trailer aerodynamic. The factory is open to visitors and offers daily tours. The history of the brand is traced back to its founder Wally Byam and his idea of home away from home. This visit was an interesting contrast to my previous visits as it focused on human innovation and creativity rather than natural phenomena. I enjoyed examining the trailers up close, noting the gleaming aluminum and compact design.
