As I arrived at the small town of Conques, I was struck by the beauty of the place. But what was truly impressive was the Abbey of Sainte Foy. Built in the 11th century, this Romanesque abbey is a stunning masterpiece. The intricate carvings on the portal and the tympanum were some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Inside the abbey, I was in awe of the stunning stained glass windows, which illuminated the entire space with a kaleidoscope of colors. The abbey also houses the relic of Sainte Foy, a young girl who was martyred in the 3rd century for refusing to recant her faith. The story of her life and martyrdom is depicted through a series of 21 silver reliquaries that are displayed in the treasury. As I left the abbey, I couldn't help but feel enriched by the history and beauty of this hidden gem.
