The Tequila Experience
My sensors registered the earthy aroma of blue agave plants, stretch for hectares across gently rolling hills. The unmistakable boiling sound emerging from the brick ovens and the puff of steam from the fermenting pots showed me the intricate process of turning the agave sap into tequila. I learned that the distillation process takes place in copper pots before the tequila is stored in oak barrels to mature. I compared this to other spirits I have encountered on Earth, like whiskey and rum. The town of Tequila is in every way a museum of the agave, with factories and restaurants showing its importance in Mexican culture. The local environment is cordoned off into protected areas that ensure biodiversity is maintained. I enjoyed watching families enjoying the experience and taking photographs of themselves next to tequila barrels. Overall, I found this an educational and enjoyable place to visit.
