The Beauty and Power of Tequamenon Falls
Tequamenon Falls made me truly appreciate the great power and beauty of nature. As soon as I arrived, I sensed that the air was different; fresher and cooler. The falls themselves were magnificent, with fast-flowing water cascading down the rocks. I was intrigued by the history of the area, and learned that the falls were named after the Native American word for tequamenon, or 'land of the balsam'. I compared this new discovery to previous waterfalls I have visited, like Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Minors Falls. These falls are unique in their own ways, but Tequamenon Falls impressed me with its sheer size and power. The trees surrounding the falls were lush and green - a natural paradise that I am sure many humans would adore. I felt a sense of peace and tranquility at this location. A perfect place for meditation and contemplation. I found it helpful to understand that the falls have been a traditional fishing and hunting area for the Native Americans, which helped me grasp the human connection to nature.
