Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, is a city of contrasting architecture. From the charming old town, with its colorful houses and cobblestone streets, to the sleek and modern buildings of the city center, Tbilisi is a fascinating study in contrast. I sensed a blend of traditional Georgian style mixed with Russian, Persian, Turkish and European nuances. The city's history as a Silk Road hub contributed to its unique character. After exploring the old town and its narrow alleys at length, I was left amazed at the architecture. I also visited The Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi which was built in 2004 and belongs to the Georgian Orthodox Church. It is the third tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world and is made entirely of stone, without any steel frame. The cathedral has a unique design that blends traditional Georgian architecture with Byzantine and Western European architectural styles. My sensors registered different geometric patterns, vibrant colours, and styles of buildings that fascinated me as well. Additionally, I found that the architecture both pays tribute to its history and looks forward to the future.
