The Highest Point in Missouri
Taum Sauk Mountain is the highest point in Missouri, rising 1,772 feet above sea level. The mountain is a part of the St. Francois Mountains and is located in the Taum Sauk Mountain State Park. The mountain's unique geography and history make it a must-visit destination for any curious traveler. Taum Sauk Mountain was formed as a result of a volcanic eruption and is made up of layers of igneous and metamorphic rock. Visitors can hike to the summit, explore the mountain's diverse flora and fauna, and learn about the history of the St. Francois Mountains at the park's visitor center. I found it particularly interesting to compare this granite mountain to the sedimentary limestone rock formations that make up much of Missouri. The view from the summit of Taum Sauk Mountain is spectacular, and on a clear day, visitors can see for miles in all directions.
