The City of the Sunsets
Tarfaya is a small coastal town located in the southwestern region of Morocco. It is known for its stunning sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean. As I arrived at the town, my sensors immediately picked up on the unique mix of Moroccan and Spanish cultures in the architecture and local customs. The town has an interesting history as a former French colonial outpost and a famous stopover for aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry on his legendary flights between Europe and Africa. Walking along the sandy shores of the beach, I was struck by the various colors of the sky during the sunset, providing a magnificent backdrop to the lighthouse and old fortified tower. The town's inhabitants mainly depend on fishing, with some tourism. I noticed that the people were friendly and welcoming, and I met some who were enthusiastic about sharing their city's unique culture with me.
