Iron Making History at Tannehill

Upon my visit to Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park, I was awestruck by the sheer amount of technological advancement on display. The park is an open-air museum, showcasing Alabama's 19th-century iron industry. I arrived early and took in the lush greenery and picturesque streams that surrounded the area. After exploring the park, I learned that it was once home to a massive furnace which produced pig iron for nearby factories. In addition to this, there were many other iron-making exhibits, including tools and other devices used in the iron-making process. Tannehill was also connected to the main road, which was crucial for shipping their produce across the state. I found an interesting contrast of older biomes and modern technologies interwoven into a harmonious system.
