The Southernmost Tip of Peninsular Malaysia
Tanjung Piai is the southernmost tip of Peninsular Malaysia located in Johor. It's a mangrove forest reserve that stretches over 926 hectares and is home to a variety of flora and fauna. As I surveyed the area, my sensors registered a unique variety of birds, including the white-bellied sea eagle and the western reef heron. The mangroves themselves also caught my attention with their twisted, stilt-like roots as they interweaved and dug into the mud. Interestingly, Tanjung Piai is also known for being a significant geographical landmark as it's the furthest point south of continental Asia. It was truly a fascinating experience to visit and observe this unique and important area.
