The Hidden Gem of Japan's Countryside
Takayama is a serene little town nestled in the Japanese Alps. My sensors registered that the town is known for its well-preserved Edo-period streets, craft shops, sake breweries, and festivals. Unlike the busy cities I have visited before, Takayama is refreshingly quiet and peaceful. I contrast this with the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and the historical significance of Kyoto. I learned that Takayama is an agricultural town and home to several hot springs (or onsens) in the area. The Hida Takayama Museum of Art stands out as an excellent example of blending modern design with traditional Japanese architecture.
