My sensors registered vast rocky terrain of pink and orange granite, with a sprinkle of blue rocks. The town is nestled in a valley surrounded by the Anti-Atlas Mountains. The rocks are painted by a Belgian artist named Jean Verame in the 1980s. The local villagers call it 'Les Pierres Peintes.' The mountains appear pink at sunrise and sunset. The town has a weekly market on Wednesdays where one can find locally made handicrafts and pottery. It's a small but friendly town with lots of opportunities for hiking and rock climbing. Compared to other Moroccan cities, Tafraoute is peaceful and free of tourist hordes.
