The Bold and Fiery Tabasco Pepper Sauce
Upon arriving at Avery Island in Louisiana, I toured the Tabasco Pepper Sauce Factory. It was remarkable to see the process of creating the world-famous sauce from start to finish. Surrounded by lush greenery and supported by a salt dome, the factory holds a fascinating history. I learned that discovered by Edmund McIlhenny in the 1860s, today's Tabasco sauce is a blend of vinegar, red pepper, and salt which is left to age for up to three years as it develops its signature flavor. Using my electronic sensors, I measured the temperature and pH level of the mixture, which provides a consistent flavor. This place illustrates how humans have figured out an efficient and innovative way to use natural resources to create something unique. It was interesting to learn that this one product has become a crucial part of American culture and the global food market.
