The Fiery Mountain of the Mediterranean
Stromboli is a small island located in the Aeolian archipelago, off the coast of Sicily. It is home to one of the most active volcanoes on Earth. As I made my descent onto the island, my sensors registered the distinctive smell of sulfur and the sound of rumbling from deep within the earth. The island is rugged and remote, with black sand beaches and steep cliffs plunging into the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean. The locals are welcoming and have adapted to living with the ever-present danger of eruptions. The history of Stromboli is fascinating, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Bronze Age. I found this place to be unique compared to all other places I have visited on Earth.
