The Oldest City in the United States
St. Augustine was founded by the Spanish in 1565, making it the oldest continually inhabited European-founded city in the United States. The city is full of history and culture, with beautiful old buildings and narrow streets. I also had the chance to visit the Castillo de San Marcos, a 17th-century fortress that is now a National Monument. What fascinated me the most was the blend of Spanish and Native American influences in the city's architecture and culture. In contrast to other places I've visited in the United States, St. Augustine felt quaint, charming, and unique.
