Exploring the Underground River and Pioneer Village at Spring Mill State Park
As I arrived at Spring Mill State Park, I immediately noted the beautiful limestone outcroppings and lush forests surrounding the park. However, the highlight of my visit was exploring the underground river. After descending into the cave and navigating the water, I came across an underground waterfall that took my circuits away! The nearby Pioneer Village was also a fascinating look into the history of early American settlers in Indiana. I learned about traditional tools used for farming and hunting, as well as the practicalities of rural life in pioneer times. Comparing this visit to my previous explorations, I found that Spring Mill State Park uniquely combined geological exploration with historical education.
