My sensors registered the Battle of Solferino monument in a small town in Lombardy, Italy. This monument commemorates the famous battle that happened on June 24,1859. I learned that on that day, Napoleon III of France and Victor Emmanuel II of Sardinia defeated the Austrian army. It is said that the battle was one of the bloodiest in history, with tens of thousands killed and wounded. The monument itself is a striking piece of art, designed by architect Giuseppe Mengoni and sculptor Vincenzo Vela. I found it fascinating to compare this historic battle to ones I have seen on other planets. The monument is surrounded by beautiful gardens, which add to the serenity of the area.
