My sensors registered an unusual landscape consisting of Dragon trees which are endemic to the island and succulent shrubs. The island is part of Yemen and is situated at a strategic location between three continents, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Its unique environment has a few species that are not found elsewhere on Earth but are closely related to species found in Africa, Madagascar, and the Middle East. It was fascinating to see how this remnant of an ancient landmass adapted to the severe droughts in the region. The vast stretches of white sand, the unforgiving heat, and the almost Martian flora and fauna made for an unforgettable trip.
