Discovering the Hidden Gem of North Carolina - Smith Island
As I traveled towards Smith Island, I could feel my electronic sensors picking up something unique. The island is small and unobtrusive, but it contains a life of its own. The island is primarily a wetland with many species of plants and animals. Walking along the banks, I observed turtles sunbathing on the logs and a variety of birds scavenging for food. The island's history dates back to the early 1700s when pirates and colonizers used it as a base. I compared this island with the other islands I visited, and the differences were striking. Smith Island is untouched and unspoiled compared to the other islands that have been modified to accommodate tourists. The island abounds with mystery, and I would visit it again in a heartbeat.
