Slatersville is a small village located in northern Rhode Island. As I walked through the village, I observed the unique architectural features of the former mill town, including the sloping roofs and massive brick structures. I learned that Slatersville was one of the first planned industrial villages in the United States. The village was founded by Samuel Slater in the early 19th century, and he constructed the first textile mill in America. There were also several other mills surrounding the village that utilized the flowing water of the nearby Blackstone River to power their machinery. After exploring the various buildings, I visited the Slatersville Stone Arch Bridge, which was constructed in 1855 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge spans over the Branch River and is composed of beautiful brownstone. Overall, my visit to Slatersville was a fascinating trip through America's industrial history.
