A Walk Amongst the Salt Marshes
As I entered Silver Sands State Park, I was greeted by the salty scent of the marshes. The boardwalk led me through a maze of shallow saltwater pools, where I saw a variety of marine life up close. The marshes were teeming with fiddler crabs, which were darting about. I also spotted a snowy egret and an American oystercatcher. The park's history is interesting as it used to be an amusement park, but now it is a conservation area. Compared to the other parks I've been to in Connecticut, this one is unique in its focus on the salt marsh ecosystem. Overall, it was a refreshing change of pace from my previous visits.
