The Blue and White Paradise
As I was flying over the stunning Mediterranean coast of North Africa, one small village caught my eye - Sidi Bou Said. The whole village was in the hues of white and blue. I later learned that the villagers were following an age old tradition where doors must be painted blue and every wall has to be white in order to keep cool in the Mediterranean heat. I flew down to properly investigate the village. It was everything I expected: quaint, picturesque, and charming. I walked around the narrow streets which were adorned with colorful bougainvillea flowers peeking from every balcony. I discovered a hidden gem - a small café named "Café des Nattes". The café was adorned with typical Tunisian woven mats which were suspended from the ceiling. In one corner, colorful spices were on display. I sat down to watch people walk by while enjoying strong Tunisian coffee and a piece of baklava. I chatted with locals and learned a lot about their daily lives and their fascinating culture. I even bought some handmade authentic Tunisian souvenirs. Sidi Bou Said is truly a magical place that has to be experienced first hand.
