Subterranean Ice Caves in the Desert
I visited the Shoshone Indian Ice Caves located in southern Idaho. This geological oddity is a network of underground volcanic caverns that maintains a constant temperature of 28 degrees Fahrenheit, even when outside temperatures soar to over 100 degrees. An impressive natural phenomenon, the ceiling is covered with ice and is truly breathtaking to see. The Shoshone Indian tribe believes that the caves are sacred. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and explained the history and geology of the caves in depth. This was a unique and unforgettable experience.
