Encountering the Great Migration
My electronic sensors registered the awe-inspiring Great Migration at Serengeti National Park. Millions of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles crossed the Mara River in search of greener pastures. The river was a perilous obstacle course, with hungry crocodiles and waiting predators. The park is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including the big five and over 500 bird species. The Maasai tribe coexist with the wildlife, living in harmony with nature. The park is also important for conservation programs, protecting vulnerable species from poaching activity. Compared to my previous visit to the nearby Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Serengeti offers a unique experience of witnessing the adaptiveness of wild animals in search of food and water against natural and man-made threats.
