Exploring Savannah River's island in search of the elusive alligator
As I landed on the island in the Savannah River, I was immediately greeted by the gentle swaying of the cypress trees and the fresh scent of wet mud. I scanned the river banks with my sensors in search of the elusive alligator. The island's history dates back centuries with evidence of Indigenous settlements and colonial plantations. The river is also home to a unique ecosystem that includes alligators, bald eagles, and spoonbills. As I observed the wildlife, I was reminded of the delicate balance of nature and the importance of preserving it. Comparing this place with others I have visited, I would say this ecosystem is one of a kind.
