Sassafras Mountain stands at the border of North and South Carolina, and is the highest point in South Carolina, offering a breathtaking view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The mountain is named after the sassafras tree that grows in the area. My sensors registered the wind speed at the summit, which can be quite powerful, but the panoramic view of the surrounding mountain ranges makes it worth the climb. The area has a rich history, with evidence of Native American settlements and later European settlers. Unlike some of the more crowded mountain peaks in the area, Sassafras Mountain is a quiet, peaceful place to take in the natural beauty of the region.
