Exploring the Heart of Sarawak
As my ship sailed into the Sarawak River, I was amazed by the sight of the stunning Astana, a 19th-century English palace that was once the home of the White Rajahs. The river is a bustling hub of activity with colorful fishing boats, water taxis, and cargo ships passing by. I traveled up the river and was struck by the traditional Malay architecture in the charming villages. The most unique aspect of this place was the incredible diversity of culture and cuisine that existed within a small area. I sampled local delicacies like Sarawak Laksa, Kolo Mee, and Kueh Chap. I also visited Fort Margherita which is now a police museum and was built in 1879 by the Rajah's volunteers. The place was absolutely captivating and worth exploring.
