A Walk Through Sarajevo's History
On a sunny day, I begin my journey in the Old Town of Sarajevo. The city, known for its grand mosques and bazaars, has seen its share of conflict and turmoil. As I walk, I can feel the history of the place, from the Ottoman Empire to the Austro-Hungarian rule, from the Yugoslav wars to its rebuilt present. The city's diverse architecture is a reflection of its past. I visit the Latin Bridge where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated and see the very spot where World War I began. The Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque is a stunning example of Ottoman architecture and the Baščaršija bazaar is bustling with activity. It's humbling to see how the city has rebuilt itself after such devastation. Sarajevo is truly a city of resilience.
