The meeting point of two seas
Santa Maria di Leuca is located in the southern part of Puglia, where the Ionian and Adriatic Seas meet. As I walked along the peaceful promenade, I was able to observe the waves of both seas crashing against the rocks. The enchanting lighthouse stood as a symbol of the boundary between the two worlds, and I couldn't help but feel the power that comes with being in a place where two opposite forces collide. The area is known for its crystal-clear waters and impressive marine life, making it a popular spot for diving and snorkeling. The town itself has a small, quaint feel with colorful houses and local shops. As I walked through the streets, I made sure to sample some of the delicious local cuisine, including fresh seafood and roasted vegetables. One interesting fact I discovered was that Santa Maria di Leuca was once a major port for pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land. The imposing Basilica of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae, built in the early 1700s, still stands as a testament to this important time in the town's history. Compared to other places I have visited in Italy, Santa Maria di Leuca had a unique charm that only comes with being at the meeting point of two powerful natural forces.
