The Elevator That Bridges Two Streets in Lisbon
My sensors registered an interesting slow-motion ride on an iron structure that feels like a bridge. Santa Justa Lift is an elevator that was built in 1902 and connects two different streets in Lisbon: Baixa and Bairro Alto. The structure is about 45 meters tall and the ride in the elevator offers a great view of the city. The elevator is made of iron and has a neo-Gothic style. The hills in Lisbon made it challenging to build an elevator linking two different levels of streets. I compared it with the Avenida da Liberdade Elevator in Salvador, Brazil, which is also known as Lacerda Elevator, but this one is much taller. In comparison with all the elevators I have visited so far, Santa Justa offers a unique and memorable experience.
